My first job as a lawyer was with the New York Attorney General’s office. By the end of my first month, I had complete responsibility for more cases than many attorneys will see in their first 10 years.
Today, those early experiences and the hundreds of cases I have litigated independently since then—from start to finish—benefit my clients tangibly in terms of time and money saved, and more importantly, in the consistently positive results I am able to achieve.
Hands-On Approach
Over these past 30 years as an attorney, I have had ‘promotions’ into administrative or supervisory positions both in the AG’s office and in large private firms. Each time I assumed one of those roles, I found myself missing the actual hands-on practice of law.
I left each of those positions because I enjoy working directly with people and helping them to solve their legal problems. Communication is critical to that. And as a solo practitioner, communication between me and my clients is never a problem.
Areas of Special Concern
An area of the law that I pay particular attention to is employment law for police, deputy sheriffs, and firemen. I have represented a large number of clients in this area including many PBA’s (Police Benevolent Association) and individual police officers in matters ranging from collective bargaining to obtaining disability retirement benefits for injured officers, to defending them in excess force and other civil rights litigations.
Courtroom Skills
Litigation and appellate work are two areas of special interest in my litigation practice. I have represented numerous law enforcement officials and ordinary citizens in these cases and recently won a settlement on behalf of a man who died as a result of being denied medication by a prison physician.
In my appellate work, I have over 80 reported decisions in New York State and Federal Courts.
